GMRS, FRS, MURS Frequency Lists

You can use a Baofeng UV-5R walkie-talkie to listen to any GMRS, FRS, or MURS radio but you will need to convert the channel number of the GMRS/FRS/MURS radio into a frequency that you can enter into your UV-5R. See the video at the bottom for the steps.

MRS Channel / Frequency Table:

MURS CHANNEL 1 – 151.820 MHz
MURS CHANNEL 2 – 151.880 MHz
MURS CHANNEL 3 – 151.940 MHz
MURS CHANNEL 4 (AKA “BLUE DOT”) – 154.570 MHz
MURS CHANNEL 5 (AKA “GREEN DOT”) – 154.600 MHz

Seen most of your vids,(thank you) but have not been able to determine anything about the UV5R-plus. I seen the vids on the UV5R but nothing on the plus…what is illegal about the plus ?

There is nothing illegal about any of the Baofengs – but if any of them are ham radios that can transmit on non-ham bands (like GMRS)then it would violate the FCC rules to use on those non-ham bands.

I wonder if you were to Google it and ask if there was an unlock code (While the unit is powered off) that would allow it to broadcast on FRS/GMRS bands. I have a gut feeling there is such a thing.

Randy, I have two Baofeng UV-5R radios (and my son has one). I am applying with the FCC for a GMRS License and want to use my radios while my wife and I trael with our travel trailer and when we are out hiking. I have watched multiple videos of yours and want to keep it simple. I have no desire to become a HAM operator or get into radios more than using it for the above listed purpose. I have three things I want to be able to transmit or listen to:
    1. transmit to keep in touch while hiking traveling (use as a two way device between my three radios)
    2. NOAA listening on freq 162.550 here in Utah
    3. Listen to Police/Fire/Emergency as a scanner (I watched your video on this)

Is there anything else I need to know that I am obviously missing?

I watched the video about using channel 19 for travel, what frequency does this need to be set to?

DO I need the programming cable and download CHIRP to set my radios up for the uses I listed above?

People love to talk about “That is illegal” – – – Nothing is illegal “per se.”
People will make up (create) rules & regulations, which they will claim, is/are mandatory and binding, for other individuals to explicitly follow and obey without deviation. Whether you CHOOSE to follow them, or not, is entirely up to each individual as to the amount of freedom/slavery they desire. If you “believe” someone else, person, or persons, whom you do not know, nor have you ever seen, nor will you likely ever see, has dominion over you, and the ability to make, create such rules, for you to obey, and that they may control, your personal individual actions, and that these, are in fact “laws”, which are for, and in, your own personal best interest, then you should DO AS YOU ARE TOLD. To me it is debatable, as I have so eloquently indicated herein. Secondly, unless you are fully capable of defending yourself against said, thugs, agents, and their violent tyrannies, ie: Guns & Fists inc.. Please disregard all statements previously made herein. Which I might add, pertains to, by and large, the vast majority of individuals on the planet today. Please also bear in mind, I am not in any way, suggesting, that any individual disregard any valid rule, regulation, statute, or law. You, the more intelligent individuals will figure this out on your own without any outside assistance.

Love you videos. I’m going to the beach with the family. Would the UV5r (sigh) be a fun thing to listen to boats out on the horizon (commercial and pleasure)?

Probably, if you know what frequencies they are using.

Absolutely love your videos, sense of humor and cleaning mats… I am a converted ham radio guy, GMRS lines up much more with what I do with radios. Wanted to thank you for the videos, the knowledge behind them, and most importantly the humor.
    Cheers

It’s only illegal if you do something illegal lol. There’s a huge part of ham operators that don’t have license and as long as you use it properly it’s okay in my opinion

Thanks for this! This will be handy to communicate with others in situations because some people don’t have hams, so thanks for this. It will definitely be handy !
