Black Eagle Mine road is a mostly flat, mostly “easy” 4×4-only road that begins at the intersection of Pinto Basin Road & Old Dale Road in Joshua Tree National Park. Black Eagle Road runs for about 9.5 miles onto the property of the Eagle Mountain Mine where the road has been blocked by a giant white boulder. Although it is possible to squeeze around the “road block”, only 100 yards past the first roadblock is another, more difficult road-block. This section at the end of the trail is a shelf-road approximately 20 feet above a wash. If you attempt to drive up to the road blocks or get around/over them, it may be difficult or impossible to turn around.
The majority of the trail is flat, fairly maintained road but there are several sandy wash-crossings and the road gets more difficult as you get closer to the end near Eagle Mountain Mine. The trail is not particularly scenic, however there are a few abandoned mine claims along the way.
