Wouxun KG-1000G GMRS Radio Review

We were able to get a brand new (released in November 2020) Wouxun KG-1000G 50 watt GMRS mobile radio, and gave it a full run-through.

The KG-1000G is slightly bigger than the only other 50 watt mobile radio on the market, the BTech GMRS 50X1, but it has several extra features, and unlike the BTech GMRS 50X1 that outputs only 32 watts on high-power according to our UHF power meter, the KG-1000G shows a 49 watt output on our meter.

The features of the KG1000G that we like the most is the adjustable LCD faceplate, the ability to remotely mount the faceplate, the speaker in the microphone with it’s own separate volume control, and the programmable quick-key buttons.

The Wouxun KG-1000G 50 watt mobile GMRS radio costs about $300, and you can find it on the Wouxun Amazon Store here: https://amzn.to/2LimQEV

I’m surprised there aren’t more comments on this review. I bought this radio based on yours (and a couple of other’s) reviews. I love the radio – the selectivity and ability to weed out background noise is fantastic compared to other radios I have when I’m operating in a crowded area. However, after a year of use I have had TWO mics fail. There seems to be a problem with the PTT button or its related circuitry and I’m hoping to convey this message to their product team, particularly if I can confirm that others are experiencing this same issue. Since I am two-for-two on mic failures, I have to assume that this problem is fairly widespread for heavy users of this radio (mine gets used all day long for a couple of days every third weekend or so, all year long).

I had a KG1000G in both my Jeep and my wife’s Jeep for a couple of years and we used them both 1-2 times a week. One mic button is a little ‘sticky’, but other than that, both work fine.

Thanks. I spoke with one of their engineering/QA folks this morning and it sounds like this is a known issue, but has not affected every unit. Might be a QA problem with the PTT switch and maybe I’m just unlucky to have received two “bad” mics. We’ll see how the new one does. One thing I’ll say is that their customer support is EXCELLENT!
