I show how I have programmed the buttons and knobs, how I make use of the XTS-5000 voice-announcements, how I configured my zones for repeaters and GMRS and how I use P25 encryption on my XTS-5000. All setup was done using the Motorola Portable CPS software on Windows 10.

I’m just getting into GMRS and really enjoyed watching your video on the XTS5000. How do you set CTCSS or DCS on this particular radio? Also, do you know if Harris makes a radio that would be capable of the same things as the XTS? Thanks!
If the radio is configured to allow FPP (front panel programming) you can add CTC or DCS tones for channels that way. If not, then you would need the Astro CPS software.
Dont know nuthin ’bout no Harris radios.
Hey Randy, have been really enjoying your videos. I was wondering why you chose to go the XTS/XTL/P25 route, as opposed to XPR/MotoTRBO/DMR? I ask because the former seems more expensive even when getting older radios, and the latter seems to have newer more affordable radios, however not as rugged/durable.
At the time the XTS & XTL were both far less expensive – still are, last time I checked but I’m not in the market now and its been a while since I’ve price-shopped.
Also have no interest in DMR.
